Balthazar Restaurant

That’s what you will find on top of the google pile on this date 09/06/2009 that’s Tuesday 9th of June … I’m English

Balthazar Restaurant was not the food establishment of Balthazar that I am most familiar with…

But that’s mainly to do with the fact I’ve been looking at a cream colored paper bag from Balthazar’s Boulangerie NY that one of my old work collages bought me back from a trip to the states once.

Of course I was bugging about the actual name etc so I just went to have a look, seems they are both the same address so It’s gotta be something there… ! and with a little more digging I find the familiar Balthazar Bakery logo and creamy coloured bag!

I remember Alice saying that it was just impossible to get into the reataurant but the “bakery had to die for delights aswell… If your lucky enough to live in the catchment area you can get a delivery!

“All deliveries within the following borders are free: 10th St to the north, Essex to the east, Greenwich Street to the west, Worth Street to the south.

Deliveries outside of this zone require a $50 minimum plus a $20 delivery charge.”

They have a great reputation for special occation items and absolutely fabulous seasonal delights as well. One things for sure when I finaly do gete to go to the US and visit New York I will deffinately most certainly quite positively visit Balthazars Resuaurant & Balthazars Bakery… even though they are both at the same address I’m sure I’ll be WOW’d anyway.

Balthazar the daddy of the champagne bottles

This is one of my favourites it also has a memory attached to make it even more personl… It came as a complete suprise in the middle of a F & B (food and beverage) class whilst I was at college.

There was a “very big” bottle of Champagne on the desk of the tutor. I remember thinking, that would cost an arm and a leg if you were to buy a bottle that big. It was the kind of size that you see only in the high and wine bars or in a shop window which just are there purely for display. I don’t believe anyone would be buying that to consume but of course your free to prove me wrong.

I must admit to have been dozing a little, as upon hearing ‘Balthazar’ I almost jumped out of the desk and shouted out yes sir.. my colleges taking great at my dispense as I heard the echoing of laughter around me. But of course Mr Hockley my tutor was talking about another Balthazar.

Balthazar, a 12 litre champagne or wine bottle which is equivalent to 16 regular bottles

Actually when you look at it Balthazar is the “baby in a big bottle world”

I’ll be very surprised if you know this Petit Balthazar!

The story of how I came across this Balthazar started a long time ago. It must have been about 1985 whilst I was on a visit to an Island in the Caribbean called Grenada

It was my first visit to this island and I knew that I was going to have a serious holiday. I was booked for a 6 week stay visiting my dad. He often spoke of ‘going home’ to retire and he was on a 4 month reconnaissance mission checking his options. I had a lot of catching up on the island to do. (Dad had been there 2 months before me)

It was a time when I was mad about riding motor cycles and that seemed to be a good idea at the time…to get around on an off roader! After a lot of questions and corners I finally arrived in Grenville, at what I thought was going to be the motor cycle hire shop… (just someone’s collection of 2 strictly road illegal motorcycles.

I agreed to “hire” the one that looked as if it could start (and I use the term hire loosely). and Off I went. Soon to find out that I only had 1 brake the back-brake but that was all I needed anyway

It was whilst I was exploring the beautiful Isle if spice I came across the region ‘Petit Balthazar’ I was kind of amazed … No one ever mentioned that Grenada had a region that was my names sake! It wasn’t anything special about the place. Just the name

Petit Balthazar.

Well I’m going to start blogging. But firstly by thanking Smart Boy Designs for helping me out again. might as well start somewhere.
